It’s actually against Massachusetts law to arrest someone for disorderly conduct in their own home, so the officer actually did do something wrong. That’s why the charges were dropped.
How could you take the officer’s side in this thing? Gates did not do anything illegal. He was within his rights.
Mr. Adams is absolutely right. Once you identify the owner of the house there is no need to keep a conversation, the owner has the right to be upset in his own house. The cop lured him outside so he could charge him with dis. conduct. In the end they had to drop the charges cuz’ they knew what was going to happen in court. Please don’t get lock out in this city..
He didn’t wade in, he was asked for his opinion, and he didn’t say that he didn’t know all the facts at the beginning of the press conference, but at the beginning of his answer. The press conference was about health care and after more than 50 min he was asked about this issue, so I understand, that this wasn’t the best answer he ever gave.
dhammy I’m about the last person to ever defend the police. I generally hate cops and I think they’re all on a power-trip. However, unless you believe that the cop falsified the police report (something he is not being accused of doing by Gates who I’m sure read the report), then it’s very clear the officer was within his right to make the arrest. He indicated in the report he was walking out of the house and leaving when Gates followed him and went into his racist tirade.
The officer did nothing wrong at all. The professor was completely out of line. And how about this Jennifer Bonjean person. Wow, what an out ot touch with reality complete moron
Nobama in a speech from his concrete bunker in July 2010: Jesus Christ!!! Who would have thought white folks could get this angry??? Make sure that door’s locked!!
This asshole professor was obviously on a power trip. Two guys with backpacks trying to break down a back door is suspicious no matter what color your skin is. If he would of showed his ID and explained the situation, the officer probably would of apologized and let him go about his business. Instead he wanted to cry about race and act like a moron. If you want to be treated like a man then start acting like one.
He was justified in what he did, this professor waited his entire life for something like this to happen. All the guy had to do was show his ID to the officer and it would of been done, but he did not, he pulled the race card. The Professor should be fired for lying on national TV. Guy is a shitbag, cop did the right thing.
The actions may be common and even accepted. That does not make it right. As a proffessional, once the officer ascertained that it was the professor’s house he would have been wise and listened to his training and walked away.
Gates may be an asshole, but that is not illegal especially on his own property. This incident may have been been staged but the officer was stupid for taking the bait.
You are wrong. His actions were justified as common and accepted police practice by relevant professional organizations. The cop acted properly. Gates was baiting and abusing him.
Cops are PAID Professionals. I think it is clear that this cop may have technically acted legally but was definetly unproffessional, for that he should be admonished and possibly discplined. Professionals must be held to a higher standard.
Didn’t you hear the clip? It’s not a crime to be unfriendly, ASSHOLE. The police officer arrested the guy AFTER he knew the person was the owner in his OWN house. The moron should have left when he found that out — instead his little ego swelled and arrested the owner of the house for being friendly… Pfffffffffffffff … Stupidity is exactly the right phrase to describe the police in this case
No thank you from Gates to Sgt. Crowley for trying to protect his home. It does make you wonder if the whole incident was staged. How friendly could Mr. Gates be when even his neighbors didn’t know who he was. I know the neighbors on either side and accross the street from me and we have a sort of neighborhood watch. they would report if anyone was trying to break into my home. the difference is they know me adn would recognize me and we would all have a good laugh. Mr. Gates is plain weird.
